Goldmine Tamarillo

    7 responses

GOLDMINE starts with ...
Hi from Hervey Bay. I am looking for a supplier for Goldmine Tamarillo, seed, cuttings, started or grafted tree. This is just for my garden, I already have a red one bearing fruit.

My search on the net has not proved fruitful (lol) so maybe someone out there could provide some info. Many thanks.

I don't know what mine is called, all I know is that it is yellow. I planted the seed from a yellow Tamarillo. They're not ready yet, but you're welcome to some seed when they're ready.

Yellow tamarillos are not as sweet as the red ones, but go down very nicely with a cheese platter!

Hey snottiegobble,
I heard the opposite. The yellows are sweeter than the reds? I've got both nearly ripe so I"ll be able to taste the difference for myself.

I find the yellow one's less acidic (or 'punchy' maybe) than the reds. The orange one's I didn't find much different to the reds...
Have never tasted one that I would call 'sweet' tho'!? But I still love them...

The ruby reds are acidic, but do have a sweeter taste, I mean 1/3 RR, 1/3 apple & 1/3 sugar makes excellent jam but I wouldnt make it with the yellow/orange varieties.

Hello John Mc. As they say one TV "Boy, That was quick!" Thank you for your fast reply.

When you start the harvesting of your yellow Tamarillos, I would be ever so grateful for a few seeds and a hint or two on getting them started. Let me know the cost please.

I will keep you advised of how things turn out here.
