brad16 says... Yes. I planted a seed from a Calypso, which is monoembryonic (only one embryo, and therefore only one tree from a single seed). When eating the mango it came from, I accidentally broke off the tap root (it had germinated whilst inside the fruit and the shoot had grown through the outer husk by about 10 mm). I'm not a big fan of Calypso mangoes, but I planted the seed just because I thought it wanted the challenge. My thought process was something like ... "e;You really want to grow huh? ... Well let's see you do it now!"e;. It sent up a shoot, but it was very slow. Much slower than other seeds that hadn't yet germinated. The shoot it sent up died back (twice!), and then a few months later it sent up another one. By this time, the weather was getting cool and growth had slowed down and it stayed very small. The top of that growth, then died again. When the weather warmed up, it sent out new growth again! It's pretty much established now, and proven that it is going to grow, no matter how I mistreat it. It's small and oddly shaped but that is mostly because I gave it every chance to die, it just didn't want to co-operate. Stubborn thing ... | About the Author brad16 GOROKAN,2263,NSW 8th May 2017 8:54pm #UserID: 14079 Posts: 175 View All brad16's Edible Fruit Trees |
