Sandy starts with ... I have two different olive trees, 1 manzanillo, 1 paragon, both in large containers. We have had them growing for over 5 years, and only had a bumper crop on both the first year, we had them. Since then, hardly any at all. It was recommended on a tv program to feed lots of lime, as they like this. This year, there are buds, but no fruit appearing ...yet. This is cold melbourne, and with the funny weather here lately, wondering if this has set back the trees. Anyone else having less or no olives growing on theirs, down here? I have lightly pruned them, too. | About the Author Sandy2 melbourne, Victoria 3rd October 2007 2:11pm #UserID: 281 Posts: 69 View All Sandy2's Edible Fruit Trees |
Kath says... Are they in full sun which they like? Because olives fruit on 1 year old wood, the removal of some stem tips increases the number of fruiting laterals. Do not overfeed them with nitrogen as this will encourage foliage growth at the expense of fruit. An application of a complete fertilizer during flower and fruit formation or a foliar feed at fruit ripening will improve the quality of the fruit. Seaweed is good as it provides the trace elements. Potasium and phosphate encourages flowering and additional calcium can also be beneficial. | About the Author Kath Cawongla 12th October 2007 10:48am #UserID: 2 Posts: 363 View All Kath's Edible Fruit Trees |
