Probably not very interesting to most...but we just dug this dude out of our potatoe patch this eve...we were thrilled to see him/her as it's only the second one we have ever seen here (being semi-arid) - as they bury themselves very deep in the ground for a very long time. It's also great to know our veggie patch is ok/clean enuf' for such a sensitive creature! :)

It is very interesting to know that there are frogs/toads live very deep in the ground. I always thought they live on the ground near ponds or water puddles for tadpoles to swim. Just wonder what sort of food/insects do they eat?

We also have a few different types of burrowing frogs, most commonly the Banjo Frog. They eat pretty much what other frogs eat, but avoid dry conditions by aestivating.

I am pretty sure we don't have toads in Australia, only frogs.

"True toads" come from the family Bufonidae, in Australia there is only one member, the introduced Cane Toad. However, "toad" tends to be a word used to describe all sorts of species outwith this family as they look a bit like a true toad.
