Linton says... Chilean guava plants are still readily available in nurseries around Melbourne, some even have large advanced ones. But I find them very finnicky growers and they usually suffer die back or die completely in my conditions. I would be interested to learn if there are any tricks to growing them successfully although everything I have read suggests that they don't have any special requirements and can grow in full sun or part shade. So I have no idea why I can't get them to grow. You can buy small plants online for $4.90 from Botanex: https://www.botanex.com.au/products/ugni-molinae-chilean-guava | About the Author Linton NOBLE PARK,3174,VIC 14th March 2018 9:52am #UserID: 2286 Posts: 994 View All Linton's Edible Fruit Trees |
MyrtleTurtle says... Thanks guys. Never even heard of Botanex. They look like a good outfit. @Linton Maybe there are different strains floating around and you need to try from different sources. People in Victoria definitely succeed with them - in full sun. I however need a small hedge for a shady spot that has some late direct sun. Obviously not ideal, but even if just for the fragrant flowers and minimal fruit would be worth it. There is no other edible option, unless you can think of something. Perhaps Lonicera caerulea? Lingonberry? Pretty sure they need good sun too and are not as suited for hedging. | About the Author MyrtleTurtle Eastern Seaboard 14th March 2018 2:58pm #UserID: 6913 Posts: 46 View All MyrtleTurtle's Edible Fruit Trees |
