Linton starts with ... What is the truth about the safety of eating Oregon Grapes, Mahonia aquifolium due to the presence of minute amounts of Berberine? The reason I ask is that these fruit are all ripening now and I've been eating a few. Actually I had about 3 or 4 which I think is ok but how many could you consume without having any ill-effects? These plants are only about 30cm high and are laden with bunches of 'grapes' so they are highly productive and the flavour is most acceptable and sweet when they are fully ripe with no trace of sharpness at all. Thank you.
