Hi John

Sorry i don't have an answer to your question. I have been tempted to try to grow either the white or black sapote. I am also in Albany. How does it handle the cold here?? I am interested in trying to growing some of the tropical fruit down here actually i would grow everything if i had more time :-)

Hay Jo, Im on the west coast of SA not far from you, and have similar conditions. The white is very easy to grow and flourish. The black i have as well, I would get it now, let it establish, then protect it from the winds and odd frosts you may get. ait to will produce fruit in four years.

Dear Jo - I have White Sapotes fruiting in Albany. It took a long time. Young trees definately needs protection from the cold. You also need to get recognised grafted trees. My little Vernon is doing the best. I also have a lemon gold I just bought and its living in a tub in my garage under the skylight until November. Have 80+ seedlings in that I hope to graft onto.
