Linton starts with ... It’s been one month since I stuck these cuttings in a pot of the Tropical Apricot Hybrid, Dovyalis abbysinnica x hebecarpa. Keen to get some more of these plants growing because they are supposed to have the best tasting fruit of all the Dovyalis species. Most of the cuttings have still retained some of the old leaves and new leaves are now sprouting along the stems after 1 month so I hope this means that they might be developing roots as well. Do you think they will grow? In case they don’t succeed, could you please advise if another option to propagate this hybrid species would be to graft them on to Kei Apple, Dovyalis caffra, although I don’t have any rootstock of that species at this stage. Just wondering if anyone has ever done any grafting with Kei Apple and how successful they were. Thanks for your valued input.

jakfruit etiquette says... They should be ok. Sometimes deciduous cuttings flush in spring, with no roots formed. These are evergreen. I would still care for them till they get away more. As for rootstock, does the Tropical Apricot Hybrid, Dovyalis abbysinnica x hebecarpa have seed itself ?? It should be the closest rootstock. Otherwise choose the most hardy Dovyalis that grows in the ground in Melbourne ?? Or either parent of the hybrid. | About the Author jakfruit etiquette gotham city,3000,Vic 1st February 2022 9:16am #UserID: 5133 Posts: 915 View All jakfruit etiquette's Edible Fruit Trees |
