About My Edible Backyard

Why StaceysGarden Love's Edible Plants

Growing food is a survival skill i'll be able to use during a zombie apocalypse! Haha!

No, really, I am a total plant nerd/hoarder, I absolutely love growing things. I also love eating, so combining the two just makes sense really. There is such satisfaction from saying "i grew that" and it can really impress people. I also love the rare and unusual, i love having people over and showing them plants and saying "you know, this is where blah comes from" and they are like "oh wow! i never knew that.

Plants are awesome.

Miracle Fruit (Seedling) 10/10

Comments: - I had a very sucessful miracle fruit bush but I gave it away to a local mango farm that also runs a cafe/ice cream shop as a tourist attraction. I thought it might be interesting for them to show their visitors.

Ice Cream Bean Mountain (Seedling) 7/10

StaceysGarden's Edible Fruits
Update: 2747 days 20hrs

Comments: -

I am dying to try this fruit, I had a small sapling but I realised I would never ba able to get fruit off it in a pot  so I gave it away to a local mango farm that also runs a cafe/ice cream shop as a tourist attraction. I thought it might be interesting for them to show their visitors.

Apparently they are like crack to the termites up here though, so I warned the new owners about that issue.

Hi, I'm on the south coast of NSW and my ice cream bean tree I bought from Daley's nearly two tears ago in a 45L bonsai bag is producing it's first fruit.

Dwarf Mango - Irwin (Grafted) 7/10

StaceysGarden's Edible Fruits
Update: 2747 days 20hrs

Comments: - Grafted this one myself after learning the skill for my PhD. Growing like a weed, getting a new vegetative flush pretty much every fortnight. Am going to let it get a bit taller then decapitate to force lateral buds to keep the height down. Growing in a 100L pot because I rent. Come the dry season I'm going to have a crack at inducing flowering using foliar Potassium nitrate.

Height 3 metres

Growing: In a Pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Spring

Question: Will I get fruit if it is in a 100L pot?

Lemonade Tree (Grafted) 7/10

StaceysGarden's Edible Fruits
Update: 2747 days 20hrs

Comments: - I was really excited to grow this fruit after reports on how delicious the fruit are, but then after buying and planting I bought a lemonade fruit from the markets and was severely disappointed, I'm clinging to hope that I was sold an mislabelled product and my lemonades will be as delicious as everyone claims. The tree is very vigorous. Same ant/mealybug problem as the lime and lemon.
