About My Edible Backyard

Why Rosalie1 Love's Edible Plants

Purchased the 3 acre property 2007 .
Was very overgrown and full of every weed known to man.
Faces East and steeply sloping in part.
Slowly discovering the ground and planting as we go.
Very stony and quite impoverished.
Quite shady, Boggy in areas and dry in others.

Lots of lovely juicy fruit
Shrekkie usually finds them before I do tho.
We have found passionfruit seedlings around the yard, presumably from fruit the turkeys have eaten.  They are not the wild passionfruit weed.  Hope we get some fruit from them soon too.

Qty: 1

First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Low Sun

raspberries (Seedling) 8/10

Native Raspberry.

Rubus probus is a pinnate leaved species, with 5-petalled flowers and bright red fruits which are considerably broader than they are long. It is widespread in Queensland, from Helidon Hills to Cooktown, and also in New Guinea.

It was named in 1923, strangely enough, from Puerto Rico, where it is naturalised. Apparently, seeds were sent to the USA in the early part of this century and then distributed. It obviously thrived in Puerto Rico. R.probus was previously known by the name of R.fraxinifolius, but that species, occurs only in south-east Asia and Indonesia.

This plant is amazing.  We found it when we cleared out the lantana and discovered it is a native of this area.
The fruit are BIG and very tasty.  It has a long season and heaps of fruit.
