Eureka Lemon

Hello. I'd like to grow a Eureka Lemon tree and just have a quick question. Can I trim it and keep it at say 2.5 meters easily enough. I can't have a 5 metre monster where I am. Cheers!

Hi Michael, I don't know about the Eureka but this is my Meyer, it is a continual battle to keep it at around 2-2.5 m but I manage! If you are determined hopefully anything is possible.

You'll be fine as long as you keep it pruned. Alternately put it in a pot. They can get to that size in a large pot.

I found a flower with ten petals on my Eureka lemon. All others have five petals. Is that unusual?

I dare say its prob a one off, unless you have a bud spot mutation. If you see more on the same branch, you might be onto a something.

Actually they're not so uncommon it seems. Looking around I see that there are others; on the orange and lemonade too :)

I think for pics 2 to 5, they are mal- formed flowers, ie didnt develop properly. I do get them on my trees as well. But pic 1 with 10 petals is unique, either the petals split into 2 for all, or you just witnessed a double bloom form.

I know its possible in the flower world with prunus, where it started with single bloom but then some cultivars developed double bloom.

I was surprised and delighted to see the 10-petal flower on the Eureka lemon - whether it is common or unique, it took my breath away. At first I wanted to pick it and press it but decided to enjoy it until it fades.

Mary, if you could tag it somehow it would be interesting to see what the fruit is like. I would be curious if it was mine!

Me too, Julie. I have 'tagged' it with a red ribbon :) Meanwhile I see more suspiciously large flower buds on the tree so I'm keeping an eye on them too.

vict I do eat the flowers; they are amazing.

Found another 10 petal flower on my Eureka lemon this morning. Also one on the lemonade. The fruit is of the first 10 petal flower on the Eureka.
