Logan starts with ... Just curious if anyone might know why my canistel (Pouteria campechiana) has the strangely lobed leaves seen in this photo? It has the occasional normal looking canistel leaf but most leaves ever since it sprouted have this shape and I haven't seen it in any other photos. I was just curious as to whether it was a disease or natural variation. By the way I've since transplanted into a larger pot and its looking much happier now too (grown from a very large seed about a year ago).

Grant says... Hi Logan, if that is a Canistel there is some serious variation going on. I have 3 at my place and none of them look anything like yours! If you are certain that there has been no seed swapping gremlins at work you just might get some very interesting fruit off this tree in a few years! | About the Author Grant Lennox Head 14th June 2017 8:54am #UserID: 6119 Posts: 156 View All Grant's Edible Fruit Trees |

Logan says... Interesting, I ate a couple of canistels and planted the seeds to see what would happen (small yellow fruits with big seeds inside). I did also purchase jakfruit (to eat) around the same time, but don't remember planting anything, but maybe some gremlins did get in there somehow!! I agree the leaves look much more like some jakfruit examples I've just googled. I'll do a further inspection in the weekend, there are a couple of other things popping up too but I think they are black sapote and abiu, but now, who knows :) Thanks for your help! | About the Author Logan Brisbane 15th June 2017 7:50am #UserID: 16348 Posts: 2 View All Logan's Edible Fruit Trees |
