David says... Hi Mary, Its a Mabolo, this one tasted like a cross between a pineapple and a good royal gala apple, some tend to be dry but this comes from a grafted tree cultivar Manilla Red, so is moist and yummy ,some think an aquirred taste. How are you by the way keeping well i hope NY must seem like a long time ago now. | About the Author David Brisbane 23rd September 2012 5:29pm #UserID: 1961 Posts: 670 View All David's Edible Fruit Trees |
MaryT says... Thanks, David. I've not heard of this fruit before. It must tastes great. I think you have access to more tropical fruits in Queensland, though I saw a bunch of monkey bananas at Central Market in Adelaide yesterday. Must be imported. NY is far away but I'm in Adelaide at the moment for a funeral; no rest for the wicked but I'm flying home tomorrow. Will be glad to stay home at last and plant some seeds. | About the Author MaryT Sydney 23rd September 2012 5:41pm #UserID: 5412 Posts: 2066 View All MaryT's Edible Fruit Trees |

David says... Hi Natalie, In the nearly 20yrs since i planted the tree it has only ever set seed once, that was 2yrs ago since then only seedless fruits, im assuming there must be another tree in the local area.Pity will keep you in mind if it ever happens again, used to live in Auckland 85-90, i think mabolo would be ok for Auckland at least. | About the Author David Brisbane 24th September 2012 3:46pm #UserID: 1961 Posts: 670 View All David's Edible Fruit Trees |
