About My Edible Backyard

Why Kit Love's Edible Plants

Just started my food garden in the last year. Have 4 acres of good red soil ph 6.5 - 7 on hill top ( so far frost free ). just finished irrigating the 4 acres from my bore. Inherited 5 huge mangos, 5 huge hass ( so im told ) avocados, lge black mulberry and a large lychee...all planted in mid 1960's ( so im told ). Also have 135 old macadamia trees...still producing after 40 - 50 years. We have a sub-tropical climate with mild winters and hot/wet summers. I plan to establish a rainforest area and have planted 50-60 palms as a start. I also plan to establish 150 different fruit trees amongst the macadamias ( using them as part shade to establish my fruit forest ) . We have a approx quarter acre under vegetables and although challenging ( weeds ) it is supplying us with plenty of fresh vegetables. 14 Chooks keep us in eggs. One day we hope to be as close to self sufficient as possible....Im even considering running my diesel car on WVO ( waste vegetable oil ) ...apparently its not as impossible as you might think. Google vegie cars !!!
