Kathy starts with ... Can anyone advise me on the root system of the icecream bean tree. I have been warned that because they originate from a wet place that they might be root aggressive. I live amongst many houses and want to plant it in my front yard where there are water pipes. I really need help here, do the roots damage pipes and damage concrete etc? I really want this tree, the foliage is gorgeous as well as the fruit, but it is all no good if it causes lots of damage. Please advise, I am desperate for answers. Kit says... I cant guarantee that they wont damage pipes but I have this info for you. ICB trees have a shallow root system and are very susceptable to blowing over ( maybe more of a consideration than pipe damage )..mine suffered badly during our recent drought through heat stress because root system was not deep enough ( tree defoliated extensively ) yet our mango's next to it thrived and produced fruit ..Im assuming their roots were in deeper moist soil. Hope this helped somewhat. | About the Author Kit Queensland 2nd January 2010 7:48am #UserID: 2605 Posts: 12 View All Kit's Edible Fruit Trees |
