Justin starts with ... Any ideas where I can get this plant? It is used to make konyaku, a gelatinous zero-calorie food in Japan (and other parts of Asia). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konnyaku

tr says... They are often available on ebay , you may be a bit late to get them as they are usually sold over winter when they are dormant . Be careful as some sellers ask very high prices for them . MAny of the other species of Amorphophallus are eaten . A.paeoniifolius is eaten in India , this gets a very large tuber .

trikus says... Justin , I have seen plants for sale at Collectors Corner in Springvale , though wrongly called Amorphophallus abyssinicus . Here is a pic of my little clump of A.paeoniifolius , some are sprouting already , and I may get a flower this year . They are a stunning plant in the garden and thrive on full sun .

JohnMc1 says... Please excuse my ignorance on specific cultivars, but one smuggled itself home in a pot plant I bought from a nursery a few years ago. They are now almost weed status here. Is there a common garden variety of Amorphophallus that hitches a ride in nursery bought potplants? I just know it as snake plant because the stems look similar to a python's skin. They have all died back for this year but they will be back with a vengeance next spring. | About the Author JohnMc1 Warnervale NSW 26th May 2015 5:53pm #UserID: 2743 Posts: 2043 View All JohnMc1's Edible Fruit Trees |

Fay says... I don't know too much about the different types John. I've got A. konjac and it's never been a problem. But then again, mine are only one year old. They grow beautifully in my greenhouse. My Konjac has a strange pattern on its stem too. Trikus, I've created an email that I can use on this forum: DELETED Looking forward to hearing from you. | About the Author Fay Toowoomba 28th May 2015 6:32am #UserID: 11498 Posts: 84 View All Fay's Edible Fruit Trees |

Fay says... Trikus, I've edited out my email address. I didn't get a reply from you but I did get a reply from someone. And to the person who did reply: No, I am not looking for a "Homophallus penisfolius var. erectus". If I were, I'd want a much larger and healthier specimen than you have to offer. I will not be opening that email address again. | About the Author Fay Toowoomba 28th May 2015 6:34am #UserID: 11498 Posts: 84 View All Fay's Edible Fruit Trees |
