Nice,
for a warm temperate area like here, I'm doing allright too. Picking heaps of Hickson and Thorny mandas,(cutting them back hard this year, just producing too many) Valencias, Tamarillow fruit still hanging on and starting to flower again, love the cutting grown ones, they just form a large, dense,on the ground bush, hugely productive, picking African Prides, delicious Monstero fruit galore and another bunch of dwarf cavendish's are all but ready, not to mention the huge Gramma pumpkins are beautiful, can't believe the vines are still growing and flowering. Must go and round up the Macadamia's, they've been lying under the tree for several months now.
11pm and it's still 14.6°C in mid July, not complaining.

We are having bit of very chilly overnight temps - down to 4 oC - but I am happy cos the Perth crew have good size berries on a few of their different types of Blueberry bushes already!
Mine are showing no inclinaton to even bud - let alone flower yet...(even with our same plants eg: Misty)
C'mon the blueberries! :)

Loving the variety of fruit available locally at the moment. Selection of fruit I bought at local market (white sap., babaco, tamarillo, mango, avocado, banana and own papaya - picture 1.). Less than an hour down the road at TFW picked up even more (canistel, green sap., madrono, sapodilla, dragonfruit, mountain soursop, and wax jambu - picture 2.).

Yes, Green sapote. Interesting how a fruit that is so similar to Mamey Sap. looks so different - the only scurfy bit is the 'nipple' on the base tip. Thanks for the background on the Yellow Dragonfruit Mike, I haven't seen them before (only the small yellow prickly ones) - it tastes pretty good, very sweet with a lemony sub-acid taste, weight 1.2kg Unfortunately they didn't have cuttings of these for sale at the nursery, maybe another time. I was pleasantly surprised by the Madrono's flavour, pity there's not more flesh ratio. I'm waiting for the Mountain Soursop to ripen - I know it's inferior to regular, but I felt I had to try it (will be juicing it). If anyone wants seeds for rootstock for grafting, or of yellow Dragonfruit let me know.

And thanks Jujube, I've already started to enjoy :)

The dragonfruit was developed to support Desert King in Israels'foray into the Eurpean fruit market. The next generation is likely to be untrue and not as good.
Sweet Madrono is a different form with more flesh and better fruit.A place in Puerto Rico sells the seeds.

VF, I'd be interested in some Mountain Soursop seeds if you have any to spare? I might have a better chance of getting them to fruit here rather than the regular ones, but I'm still trying. My regular ones (one grafted) are doing OK, just a tad slow, three years old now.
Let me know what you are chasing and hopefully I can match it.

BJ says...
I call those yellow ones yellow dragon fruit, as they are a real dragon fruit. The other yellow spiky one is a different species and lacks the wings and scales of a dragon, so can hardly be called a dragon fruit. I prefer to call it pin cussion fruit. lol. I'm growing a seedling of it for fun up a mixed DF structure and am prepared to wait to see what it turns out like. If its a dud the same support will have pinks and purples so chopping off the yellow will be no problem.

Nice haul VF! I am hoping to get to TFW next weekend and hopefully snag a bag of green sapote. Just waiting for the end of the school holiday.

John Mc, no problem, I just have to wait for them to ripen - I just need contact details. Thanks for offer too.

BJ, now that I've seen the real yellow dragon fruit, the other needs a name change - pin-cushion fruit sounds appropriate :) Re TFW, if you're taking family, see if you're eligible for VIP pass - gives you half-price entry for subsequent visits, and some discount for shop. Jackfruit should be available within 3-4 weeks too - harvest is behind they told me coz of weather.

Parcels sent today...

Re the Mountain Soursop fruit: wonderful aroma that filled the living areas(great as a room deodoriser). Taste only mediocre at best - not sweet or sour/acid, but a very distinctive pineapple flavour.Perhaps just the slightest touch of bitterness. Flesh very fibrous but with creaminess too. Due to period of no power, I couldn't process fruit, but it may have been good in a blended fruit juice by providing a pineapple like flavour. Second fruit ripening now, so may try yet.

John Mc, you're just the person to develop this fruit to the next level with your excellent hand-pollinating skills, maybe an improved hybrid. Luckily the MS is a fast grower and fruiter(?real word).

Hi Vf. Saw the photo of the yellow dragonfruit and was wondering if you grew it yourself or picked it up at a market somewhere. Would love a cutting if you grow it or even seed from the fruit itself if available. I currently have 7 different varieties of dragonfruit and am always on the lookout for more. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Anthony.

Hi Anthony, John's right, I did buy the fruit at TFW but they weren't the growers. I've visited Tamborine DF Farm, and they've recently started growing them, so I guess sometime in the near future they may sell cuttings. ( I did taste a very good variety they were developing at Tamborine called Pink Diamond - small pink tasty fruit - end of the year they may start selling cuttings if I remember correctly). A few years back, Diggers were selling smooth yellow cuttings - they might be source still?

David, I'm keeping well thanks, hope you are too.
