Cherry 2 way - Minnie Royal - Royal Lee Discontinued

$99.00 ($99.00-$120.00 choose a size)

This 2 Way Cherry has been discontinued by Flemings Nurseries. If you have one and you are experiencing difficulty with pollination, pair with a Royal Crimson to bridge the flowering periods, plant flowering winter herbs and veggies to attract bees and perhaps try hand pollination. The older the tree gets the more cross over in flowering time in warmer areas you may see. For a fantastic 2 Way low chill cherry try the Cherry - 2 way Minnie Royal/Royal CrimsonCherry trees with 2 varieties grafted onto the same plant are ideal for limited space and both varieties can cross pollinate each other. Low chill cherries are possible to grow in the cooler areas of the subtropics in warmer climates with only 400 chill hours, and sometimes as low as 200 hours has been reported. According to Tom Spellman from Dave Wilsons Nursery in California these 2 cherry selections have proven to be winners. Southwestern fruit gardeners can finally celebrate the introductions of two new very-low-chill sweet cherries. Minnie Royal and its companion Royal Lee have proven themselves to be low chill adaptable. In fact, they may not require any chill at all. Minnie Royal is a medium to large size red cherry with a firm texture and superior flavour. Fruit begins to ripen in early November and holds well on the tree into December. The tree is very productive and sets heavy crops in southern California. We estimate the chill requirement at 200 to 300 hours, but some have produced with less than 100 hours. A Zaiger introduction.Discontinued: These 2 varieties are not consistently compatible in pollinating each other. Instead: 2 Way Minnie Royal - Royal Crimson is recommended because they have a much more reliable pollination and fruit set which is exactly the reason for having a 2 way Cherry like this. Search for this 2 way at Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery instead.

Cherry - Royal Lee

$79.00 ($59.00-$79.00 choose a size)

Delicious, medium to large, dark red cherries, with a rounded to heart shaped look. This is a low chill cherry, requiring 200-400 hours of chill. Royal Lee requires a pollinator which has traditionally been the older Minnie Royal but flowering times of these 2 can be mismatched in warmer areas and an intermediary is helpful. The newer, self pollinating Royal Crimson blooming can bridge between these two. Bees are the main pollinating insects, so plant flowering herbs to attract them to your garden. Other stonefruit may also provide pollination services. Plant within 5m of each other for best results. Hand pollination could be helpful in years where flowering times are mismatched.

Large, flat fruit of excellent quality, non-astringent and seedless when grown on its own. Being a dwarf variety it is well suited to backyards but is also a good commercial variety. Cherry - Minnie Royal

Fantastic looking tree and a couple of the trees I bought already have a couple of cherries on them (I only planted them two or three months ago) - I don't have the heart to take them off. No issues with insects as yet (unlike one of the Royal Lee's)

BOWRAL, NSW

Cherry - Minnie Royal

Has taken root quickly in a prepared hole, blossoming in its first season and looking very healthy. My only disappointment is that it isn't a self-pollinator. A grafted variety would be much more practical in a suburban garden. Nevertheless, very happy with plant quality and vigour.

Cherry - Minnie Royal

Two years on my Cherry tree is growing well. The tree had a slight insect problem, but that was easily fixed. I live in Qld so I was really glad to find a Cherrythat grew well.
