Dying olive tree (forum)

I planted to espalier an olive tree "Barouni" in January 2006. It has thrived and reached the top wire however is now in the past two months progressively died from the top - the leaves remaining on the dead part are just as tho' they have been in a bushfire. I can exactly see where the die back has reached should I just cut it right back and what sould the problem be?

Olives are generally very hardy but they do not tolerate wet, heavy soils. Have a look at this web site, they have a great little section on olive pests and diseases.

I would cut it back to where it is healthy.

Thank you for your response Kath - the soil however is if anything rather dry as it is against a wall and elevated and I have had to mulch.
