Patricia starts with ... I have a persimmon fuyu in Newcastle that does get a bit of wind. I have given it lots of nutriants and quality soil but it isn't taking off for me. Does anybody have some hints? It is the Persimmon Fuyu Non Astringant variety

Mrs Biggles says... I have a fuyu persimmon and it did little for me. One year I got frustrated and pruned it during the winter. My neighbour nearly had kittens... you don't prune them etc. Anyway, good fertiliser and a good talking to about having to join the compost crew if it didn't start fruiting and low and behold, the next year, a small but solid crop. We haven't looked back since. I prune it probably every couple of years, just tip pruning though, and it is a lovely tree now. Mine gets wind too - we live in a very windy area of Perth, so wind shouldn't be a prob.
