Longan - Seedling (Seedling) 7/10

Amanda's Edible Fruits
Update: 2563 days 22hrs

Comments: - This tree is now about 10yrs old and still hasn't had fruit yet. It got it's very first flowers this summer, only a very few, but maybe next year it will get started properly. I think this selection might be chill-sensitive as it get's the winter yellows - which disappear once the weather warms up again in Spring.
This tree was relocated from up north, with us, and has been planted here since 2012.

Planted: 2008

Height 5 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Sun/Shade: Medium Sun

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced organic Acid lovers, sometimes inorganic acid lovers, alternating with slow release organic chook pellets. Little and often. Suphur in early spring and iron sulphate - when pH indicates.

Comments: - Marcotted so it starts fruiting straight away. I pruned the fruitlets off for the first year, left some for the scond year - but I probably should just let the tree focus on growing instead. It seems a bit less fussy than the Kohala when it comes to the bore water and rarely gets chlorosis. It might be a varietal difference, or not.

Longan Seedling

Pat1's Edible Fruits
Update: 4613 days 18hrs

Comments: - I have tried a few Marcotted varieties of Longan and Lychee but they have all died in my garden despite best possible care.  I have a few seedlings raised from fruits bought from the market.  These were very large fruits.  I was skeptical as seedlings are often inferior and the fruit may be small and worthless.  However, these trees are much tougher than the marcotted ones and they have survived the coastal gusty storms of Perth.  After 14 years it finally started to flower last year and had a few fruits which were amazingly large and fleshy and yummy.  Hoping for a larger crop this year but we have experienced record storm this year and a lot of the flowers are damaged... will see how it goes. I have high hopes for this tree.

An exotic from Daleys planted last year and thriving. Again in the dappled sun on a slope in the orchard. It had a slight setback when we burnt off a pile of dead branches etc. near it {same as the Wampi} and the leaves were burnt. That was so upsetting however they have all bounced back beautifully. Thank God!! Looking forward to watching and caring for this plant. in the years to come.

Perhaps a tie with my Pomegranate in relation to being my favourite fruit tree.

Has some sun damage on the lower leaves and some new growth sprouting out the top.

I have sprayed all my fruit trees with 'Drought shield' from Yates, and it is working really well to protect new growth and keep moisture in the plant on very hot days. I would recommed this product to others.
