I have an Avocado tree which is about 15 years old. The other day I discovered its first fruit. I was thinking of taking it out but perhaps there is something that I could do to encourage more fruit. Can you give some suggestions. The tree looks very healthy and flowers in spring but only one fruit.
Thank you
Carolyn

Is this a tree grown from an avocado stone or a grafted one?

Hi Carolyn, I'd say it's a seedling avo tree to take that long to bear. I'd give it a prune, say remove ~30%, then feed it with a fertilizer high in phosphorus (P) & potassium (K). That will help. Don't forget, seedling avocado fruit 'usually' have a big seed and sometimes don't taste too good. If it has good fruit I'd keep it, otherwise I'd take it out and replace it with a grafted tree, a Hass should grow where you are.
