Beauty Seedless Grape Vines

    21 responses

Shaun starts with ...
The Beauty Seedless Grape is a truly black table grape of good flavour and very sweet.
Years ago, someone grew these grapes in the Swan valley, but it has not been available at the Midland Weekend market or at Swan Valley for many many years.

The cuttings of this Beauty Seedless is available again from Dept of Ag WA this year, but I have to buy a minimum of 10 cuttings.
Alas, I can only accommodate a maximum of 2 vines in my small 'balcony farm'.
So, if someone else out there in WA surbubs is interested in buying some of these grape vine off from me, it would be very much appreciated.
The cost of the vine is approx $8.00 each.

Thanks.

There is a new variety of black seedless grapes on trial in Harvey, WA.
It has very large berries (almost the size of red Globe), dark black skin and seedless .... it is called Magic Seedless.
Has anyone got any info on this new grape variety?

Hi Suhaili,
Unfortunately I sent my orders in a day too late .....
they are released only once a year .....
so, we now have to wait for 12 months before we can put in a new order.
Sorry.

Shaun- if you're still on the website- where/who do you contact in the Ag department for the cuttings- I'm wondering if they would have the new CSIRO Magic Seedless black grape this year.

One of the guys down near us is growing it- not a strong flavour but very crisp, large, elongated berries.

Hi Itdepends,
Sorry for not noticing your post earlier.
The Ag Department is the one that supply grape vines to growers (Viviculture Department?), and it is located near the Southwest region of WA (can't remember their website at the moment, but will search for it if you want to contact them).

There are a few people in Harvey (WA) that grow Magic Seedless, and I know one of them.

I don't know if the Midnight Beauty Seedless that you sometimes see in Woolworth is the same as the Beauty Seedless I mentioned in the forum.
However, I don't think Midnight Beauty was listed in the Viticulture Department's site.

Cheers Shaun,
Magic seedless was the one that this grower had- the grapes were available on a roadside stall and my better half loves them. I didn't see the variety listed

If you come across cuttings/plants of it (Magic) can you let me know.

I've checked the department website and they've got Maroo and Midnight beauty listed as available but not Magic.

Midnight Beauty is a protected variety belonging to Sunworld, while Magic Seedless TM is a protected variety produced by CSIRO Australia in conjunction with the Australian Grape industry. Neither of these varieties are available to growers without a signed Non Proagationn, Non Distribution Agreement. Anyone distributing the varieties will be in breach of their license. Sorry folks, fruit is only available from commercial growers.

Sorry, consultant; seeds are viable from Midnight Beauty and since it is not genetically identical to the parent I see no dilemma in trying it.

Kert,
I would doubt you have Midnight Beauty as it is a seedless variety. Good Luck

Hi Kert,
I bought a bunch of Midnight Beauty at Walmart that had some lignified wood connected. I took that hardened off wood and put some rooting hormone on it and got it started to grow. I now have that plant growing very well. Do you see anything wrong with me having the vine? I didn't sign a non-prop when I bought the bunch of grapes. Just curious.

Well done. Let me know where you live so I can get a sample for DNA testing. Check out http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/article/2011/04/28/323711.

The DNA is the registered part of the plant and can be traced anytime a plant is propagated from cuttings or buds.
Kert, if you bring it into WA you will be in breach of quarantine laws as well, just to compound the problem. Putting the WA industry at risk!

No, that would be paranoid. I think he is ,in fact, involved in the industry as he suggests. But he does believe that he is dealing with natives who will accept beads for Manhattan island.
