What would be the best type of mango for me to grow in my back yard at Port Macquarie NSW? (I do not like the type that have a strong turpentine flavour).

I don't know what you mean by 'strong turpentine flavour', but have you tried either the kensington pride (aka bowen) or R2E2? Both these varieties are available from your local fruit market and can be grown easily from seed and will be true to the parent. The R2E2 will take longer to fruit (upto 5 years), but will fruit regularly in your area, whereas the kengsington will fruit earlier, however could have irregular fruiting seasons.

One thing you need to consider is those mango trees are huge and will grow in excess of 6m tall and have a huge root system. Therefore can't be near your house or infrastructure. If you are looking for a smaller (dwarf) mango tree, the varieties of glenn or irwin would be better (they would need to be grafted), however I have not tasted these so not sure what the flavour is like.

Here are a couple links you might find useful, it has details of the different mango variaties.

In my opinion Kensington Pride is the ultimate mango for flavour.
