A friend has given me two paw-paw trees but I know nothing about their maintenance. I have learnt a lot from this web site but I would like to know what sort of fertiliser to use. I know some plants need certain fertilisers so what's best for my brand new paw-paws? And if so, would it make any difference that I am here in Brisbane?

Hi Lisa,
Try some Dynamic Lifter Plus, some sulphate of potash, some moo poo, a fair bit of dolomite, some gypsum, and lots of mulch.

You'll have that many paw paws, you'll have to sell them:-)

Thanks Brendan,
Would a handful of each be enough for each tree? And how often and when should I fertilise?

Hi Lisa,
A good handful per square metre out to and past the dripline is the recommended rate.
That's just for the fertilizer. The 'moo poo' (that's a brand name btw), can be put on , usually under the mulch, about 100mm thick, if you can.

Apply fertilizer every 2 months should do the trick.
Lots of mulch, about 200mm thick, is the secret too.
