Hi, does anybody know where to get some willamete raspberries in Perth? Are they tasty or at least similair to the european varieties?

Yes they are tasty- I mail ordered mine from Diggers over winter. You will find it difficult to get them during summer unless you strike it lucky and find some in a nursery.
Try Bunnings, Wandilla or Tass1Trees.
Cheers,
Daniel

I got some Wilamette from Bunnings Innaloo 3 months ago. They might still have some but I dont think so. My Wilamette were very sickly. I lost one and the other is struggling along, by comparison the Nootka I got at the same time place are going great guns. 3-4 times the size and vigor. Neither have set fruit so I cant comment in that regard.
Try you luck around the various Bunnings, waldecks and othergarden centres. I.e. spen 1/2 hour ringing the various palces and asking if they have any in stock.
Note in spring the canes are often sold in the bulbs stand (often indoors near the seeds/pots)at Bunnings. They are single canes with some sawdust. They are alright if you get them early but they suffer badly if they are old stock. So check there as well as in the garden section

As I said before feel free to grab some of my "heritage" runners. Come around sometime I am 35 Norman st.

Thanks for the offer charles, but I don't think I have enough room for more than two plants. I have a chilliwack already, and after reading a couple of other posts thought I may be more successful with a wilamette? I have never heard of the Nootka?

Yeah you might, as always try one and if no luck acquire the others types, least your only waiting 3 years till you know how good they will go.
I am not sure you are going to get a useful amount of raspberries with 2 bushes though, it might be more of a hassle than is worthwhile with that amount of fruit.

I have a space in the garden about 1 metre by 0.5 metres, so thought that might be able to sustain a couple of raspberry plants?

Hi Gus,
No worries, but you only need one plant. It will sucker all over the space available in its second season.

note the comment about the suckers though- it will try to spread from the root system- if you don't want it to spread- surround your space with something sunk into the ground a good 30cm.
