Finger Lime - Collette (Grafted)

VF's Edible Fruits
Update: 6 days 7hrs

Comments: -

Fantastic tasting fruit that is reminiscent of Kaffir lime/Key lime cross - love it!  Bought tree already bearing fruit (tree about 30cm height), and a few weeks ago started flowering again  - can see tiny little Limes forming, YAY!

Finger limes indiginous to area where I live, (grow on Tamborine Mt.), so should grow well.

Lime - Tahitian (Grafted)

Update: 21 days 12hrs

Comments: -

Love all things lime !

Planted: 2010

Height 1.8 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Winter

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Manure and Citrus feed

When I Fertilise: Yearly

Pest Control:

Manually squish some of Swallow-tail Butterfly caterpillars if they get a bit excessive (they seem to prefer this lime to the other citrus). Nil other problems.

Organic Status:Partially Organic

Question:

Plant sets fruit, and they get to 5-10 cent coin size then drop. Any solutions, or is the tree too young? It can get a bit windy, could that be the problem?

Orange - Joppa (Grafted)

VF's Edible Fruits
Update: 27 days 8hrs

Comments: -

Supposed to develop into a small, attractive tree.  Bought this variety as tolerates wind. (Planted on exposed side of steep hill - growing beautifully). The fruit are tasty and juicy, a little seedy - fruit tastes like the drink "Tang"!  Does need watering if it hasn't rained for a few weeks (generally winter).

Qty: 1

Fruit Harvest: 3 Fruit Per Year

First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot

Have used white oil spray once for scale.

Lime - Kaffir (Grafted)

VF's Edible Fruits
Update: 29 days 17hrs

Comments: - Use it in Thai style cooking - gorgeous aroma and taste!  I use mainly the leaves, but the zest of the fruit is good too.  Tough plant - I have on occassion forgotten to water plant and it will loose all leaves.  After having a drink, they all re-grow. (Not done deliberately, but keeps a cap on sooty mould and tree barely needs a prune!)

Planted: 2005

Height 1.2 metres

Growing: In a Pot

Qty: 1

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Spring

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Citrus feed and coffee grinds.

Pest Control:

I must use white oil spray every couple of months and occassionally ant bait,as the little critters help overrun the poor tree with scale and the sooty mould gets out of hand. I'm thinking of finally planting poor little tree out to see if that helps.

Lemonade Tree (Grafted)

VF's Edible Fruits
Update: 29 days 21hrs

Comments: -

A sweet lemon sounded delicious, and on tasting, they really are! Very refreshing.  Tough little tree - I accidently knocked half its' roots off when planting; it got a bit sick but has made a full recovery.  (It didn't even drop the 3 young fruit it was carrying at the time, and they grew beautifully.)  Having second crop maturing now, 31 good size fruit.

Height 1.4 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Fruit Harvest: 31 Fruit Per Year

First Fruited: 4 Months from Purchase in Pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Winter

Pollination: Self Pollination

Microcitrus australasica - Finger lime

Dory's Edible Fruits
Update: 66 days 23hrs

Comments: -

This tree has been planted six years ago, but nearly died two years ago. It developped some sort of white rot that consumed most of the wood. I cut it right back and cleaned as well as I could. It started growing again from the base. No flowers or fruits, but it is looking OK.

Orange - Lanes Late (Grafted) 8/10

Selfsufficientme's Edible Fruits
Update: 68 days 11hrs

Comments: -

I wanted to extend my orange season and I already had a Washington naval, which produced exceptional tasting and good sized fruit so I decided to give Lane's late a go and I wasn't disappointed.

The tree grew slow at the start but it has found its feet now and is doing well.

The fruit does mature slightly later than my other oranges, so it has helped to extend my orange season. Tastes great and juices well. Fruit set isn't prolific (unlike my Valencia) but I'm sure it will improve as the tree matures.

The tree itself is quite upright in growth and is just awesome in my backyard collection.

I live in a fruit fly prone area but the citrus are usually left alone and if stung the larva never develop - it also helps that the fruit ripening is through winter and the fruit fly numbers are lower.

I would definately recommend the Lane's late naval orange for the backyard.

Fruiting Months February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September

Planted: 2007

Height 3.5 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Fruit Harvest: 30 Fruit Per Year

First Fruited: 2 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Autumn

Pruned By: 10% in After Fruiting

Fertiliser or Organics Used: chicken and quail manure, some citrus commercial mix, some trace elements

When I Fertilise: Yearly

Pest Control:

This tree is largly pest free. Gets the occasional leaf miner, caterpilla, or aphid but nothing serious. If I ever do need to spray, I use a little white oil and sometimes pyrethrum but that's very rare.

Lemonade Tree

Paula-f's Edible Fruits
Update: 95 days 22hrs

Comments: -

Another great tree.  Fruits over a long period, so I always have fruits ripening at different times.  Only problem though is the later ones are a magnet for fruit flys......so I usually cover the whole tree.

Australian Blood Lime (Grafted) 10/10

BJ's Edible Fruits
Update: 111 days 21hrs

Comments: -

New CSIRO developed native lime cross. Here's their spiel:

'Australian Blood' (also known as 'Australian Red Centre') is a hybrid between an acid mandarin and a native finger lime. It has blood-red rind, flesh and juice.

It is a nice plant. More prolific than the ordinary finger lime. Very weeping habit. Tons of round fruit which start off like a stumpy black finger lime and fill out to a round red fruit. Taste is very good - particularly in salads or chopped into 'wheels' and put into drinks. Skin is edible and sweet!
