ailing cherry tree

I bought an 8' Japanese flowering cherry tree first wk of April. Didn't save the card but name was kamake (or close). Planted it properly in well prepared soil. Mulched lightly. Watered every 3rd day that we didn't have rain and fed it once with Miracle Grow. For first month, it thrived, leaves were green and upright, and I saw new growth at tips of each branch. 3 wks ago, the leaves started drooping. Now they are ALL drooping and turning yellow. Looks more like an autumn tree than spring. All other plants (roses, peonies) in the same area are OK. Is my little tree dying?
Let me know if you need photo. Will try with cell phone camera.
Thanks!

My little tree shows no signs of life. The leaves are brown and withering and there has been no new growth. I fear it is now gone forever.
Question: Should I leave it where it is until Fall or next Spring (just in case it resurrects)?
