Another mulberry root thread

I have a plan to contain mulberry roots!

I am on a small lot in Brisbane and am about to chop my mulberry down as it will interfere with my planned house extension.

Being a mulberry lover I have another one growing feverishly in a pot, ready to plant in his new location in the back corner of my yard.

Would it be possible to buy a giant 800mm+ pot, drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage, then bury it in the ground and plant my mulberry in that?
Or, I could buy a small plastic water tank, cut the top off it, drill drainage holes in the bottom, and do the same.

Do you think this would contain the root ball of the mulberry tree? would the tree still grow ok and produce a reasonable amount of fruit?

The tree should be able to grow in the giant pot, but I think that if you put the pot in the ground, the tree roots would make their way through the holes, so that would not work. I would put the pot on top of a concrete slab. That's what I did with my white shahtoot mulberry and it seems OK. It limits the size of the tree but we get enough fruit.
