I've heard that Avocados are generally not good for espaliering. But are there are any cultivars that could be? I have heard that Murrieta Green can be, but have never seen that in Australia. Wurtz, perhaps?

I have seen an espalied avacado that was in the shape of a "u" (looking down on it), about 4 feet high that was producing fruit. It was not against a wall or near other hard surfaces, so there would have been less heat reflection to cause sunburn. It was in S. California.

Thats not what i wanted to hear. I have all types of citrus espaliered along my back fence. They are in the belgium fence (45 degree crossed branches) design. When i get rid of the shed i will have space for one more and was planning to put in an avo.

There are things u can do for sunburn - try painting the limbs with white paint. There is a product called Droughtshield (yates) that u can spray on and also a sunblock for fruit trees! It's called Parasol and is made of calcium carbonate from memory?. I think it was Jimmy who is using it (forum contributor)

There is also a product called Surround, mentioned before in this forum. Try Googling 'surround plant protector'.
It also keeps away some insect pests.

Checked out Surround it is a commercial product also very good for citrus. I Don't think it is exactly "organic" though and I havn't enquired as to minimum quantaties I have decided to go ahead and am thinking to use Gwen + Wurtz Next step is to establish A+B compatability and a supplier.

Martin, as far as I know it is just a fine form of kaolin clay. I am an organic grower, and I would use it if I knew where to buy it.
