Is there a particular grade shade cloth that is best suited to act as the avocado sock surround , ie 50% / 75%

You can use 50% grade shade clothe to your avocado tree when they are still young because the stems are susceptible to sunburn and frost which in turn lead to diseases and stunted growth which might lead to their early demise . When they are already established they can take the summer heat and light frost already. For additional precaution paint the young trunk and stems with white water base paint before summer. The paint will act as sunscreen to further protect the vulnerable stems.
