Bed guards around fruit trees. (forum)

What would be the best thing to plant around a variety of fruit trees to hold soil around the trees. Large size truck tyres with both rims cut out or possibly old wood posts we have pulled out of old fence lines? I was concerned about termites getting into the trees using the old wooden posts. I have been told that citrus don't like being planted in tyres and I was not sure if this was true.
Thank you for your time.

Hello Ray
If you were to use the old fence posts would they not have been eaten by now by being used in the fence, so I think they would be fine.

I have not heard that citrus do not like old tyres, I thought they would be fine.

This is what I did with my citrus tree surrounds
