GG starts with ... Hi all, I am thinking of planting a red maple as a street tree to provide morning shade in summer and good autumn colour. I am wondering which varieties will grow well here and now and into the future? I live in Lindfield on Sydney's north shore. It will be planted in a position that's full sun all-year round, close to a fully exposed street, with clay-like soil and sandstone substrate. We want a tree that will be over 10m in height and fast growing. We have considered an 'October Glory' but given the alkali soil we're unsure of its success and growth rate. We have considered an 'Autumn Blaze' but given the relatively high temperature of the microclimate we are unsure of this variety. Would either of these varieties, or any others you can think of, be appropriate? We have a Red Maple (acer rubum) growing in the area. I could try to grow it from cutting but growth rate is a factor. We want an established tree asap. Thanks, GG | About the Author GG Lindfield 9th October 2017 9:42am #UserID: 10423 Posts: 38 View All GG's Edible Fruit Trees |
