Black Sapote fruit wont ripen (forum)

Hi, I have a 6 year-old 4m tall Black Sapote in Cairns that is producing well with large size fruit.
Recently, in the last 2 years the fruit will not ripen after picking. I pick the fruit that shows signs of ripeness like large size, drying petioles and slight golden coloration. After the fruit is picked, it tends to stay hard until several weeks later it will shrivel and then rot without ever softening. Any ideas?

You should only pick the fruit off the tree when the sepals have opened-outwards. The fruit will then be fine.
