Black Sapote - Ricks Late pollination

    2 responses

I've just purchased a Black Sapote (Ricks Late) - do I need to purchase another one for cross pollination or is it self pollinating? I have a White Sapote (Otega) that fruited by itself. I do understand they are completely different plants & not really related

Devon says...
I planted one of these about 5 years ago, in a very shady spot. It has just got up into the sunlight, and has fruit ( about 40mm dia at this point) for the first time There are no other black sapotes (or any other types of persimmons), as far as I know, in the vicinity, so it appears to have self-pollinated.
Hope I can get the fruit before the possums do!
