black sapote

I have had a black sapote now in the ground for nearly 8 years and still has not beared fruit. It flowers well but the flowers drop off before they can become fertilised by bees. Got a nursery man out locally and he suggested putting a dead fish at the bottom of the tree to encourage flies to fertilize the tree. Did but to no avail. Can anybody please tell me how long do I have to wait before fruit begins to develope.
