Blueberry kisses (forum)

We planted blueberry kisses around 5-6 months ago. It has gotten very few leaves and stem is red with no new leaf growth. The leaves that are already present have turned mostly red. I'm not sure what is wrong.
I have looked online and while there are suggestions for red leaves, I couldn't find anything for red stem.
How do I encourage leaf growth? Should I cut off these stems? But it's pretty much all the bush.

Hi Vidya,
The lack of growth could be due to the soil. Blueberries absolutely need acidic soil (pH 4.5 -5.5) So if you've planted it without amending the soil with sulfur or peat moss, then that is very likely the cause.
I haven't grown this variety before, but the red stem can be a natural change into dormancy. Through autumn and winter some of my blueberries tend to become purplish red (stem and leafs) and depending on the variety may lose some or all of its leaves with the cold.

Thank you for the response. We had amended it with peat moss but they still suffered. Now I have moved them into pots and when we dug them out from soil, found that the roots hadn't spread at all. Hoping that they will survive better in pots.
