I went out this morning and checked on my new fruit trees. My green gage has either broken in the wind overnight, split rather than broken off, or the wallabies have pulled at it and split it.(leaves have been eaten) Can I save it? It would be two or three year old. If I can how. thankyou

Plums can be damaged under the weight of the fruit as happened to my tree this year. I had neglected my tree and had not thinned the fruit, this one branch had 300 plums on it. I paid a heavy price as this was the only branch of gulf ruby on my tree, the other three remaining branches are gulf gold. I had a look at the material on the ground and saw a couple of nice fat buds amongst it so I regrafted a couple of bits onto the bottom of my tree, I was not too optimistic about them as it was late in the season to be grafting plums in the field, much to my surprise they have both pushed off. It could be the wallabies eating you tree or if in fruit it could be the weight of the plums damaging your tree. Fence the wallabies out, paint over any open wounds with a diluted acrylic paint to prevent any disease entering through the bark and hopefully it will reshoot for you.
