Cape chestnut (forum)

My friend at Narromine has a beautiful large Cape chestnut tree. It is the only tree in the local area and we would like to propagate seedlings from it We need assistance. The literature says that they can be easily grown from seed or cuttings. We tried both techniques last Spring and neither was successful. Do you have any helpful tips - timing, use of root powder, soil mix etc?

Thanks,

I don't know why you weren't successful, but I think you should try 'air cuttings' if you haven't already - much more effective way of getting cuttings from trees with "hard", dry branches like the cape chestnut. Just g-search for 'growing air cuttings', and you'll be sure to find a demonstration.

Good luck!
