Cereus peruvianus/apple cactus (forum)

Just wondering if anyone out there has experience with growing these cacti for their fruit. Have recently purchased a couple of plants that are "self pollinating" but have read that a lot of growers need a different plant to pollinate the flowers for fruit production. Have also purchased a large quantity of seeds to grow so as to mix up the pollinating later on. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Anthony.

I bought cuttings of these plants, "Koubo" as they are now called, from a nursery in Queensland who do mail order of different clones to ensure pollination. There are a few mature, solitary trees in gardens around Murwillumbah, most flower but don't produce any fruit, even if they are located on the same town block. However there is a bearing plant, I can't tell if it is multistemmed or two seperate plants growing together, on the Tweed River which I have picked fruit from. Perhaps there are self pollinating varietes around but the general consesnus is that you require a pollinator. I have also grown them from seed, make sure you keep them humid and not allow them to dry out at the germination stage.
