Dragon Fruit for sale in Woolworths in Adelaide

Woolworths in Adelaide have the red skinned white fleshed Dragon Fruit for sale.

I tried it today and although they do not have a lot of flavour it was not bad.

As the store bought ones are not allowed to ripen on the plant they don't have their full flavour (I have read) so if a properly on-plant ripened Dragon Fruit has more flavour then I think I will like them even more.

Add to that the fact that the one I tried was white fleshed which apparently has less flavour than the red fleshed variety and I think I will like the red fleshed variety more.

I am going to try growing the red fleshed variety as that is supposed to have more flavour.

Thanks for passing on that story. I have a red one as well and going to try it in Canberra.

I remember the Woolworths one being pretty bland too but certainly more than palatable and it does mean the home grown ones should be pretty special.

The red fleshed is bland too.
All Pitaya/Dragonfruit are bland/low tasting and low sweetness.

The yellow ones are supposed to be the best tasting - the only drawback is that they have spines which would make them less likely to appear in supermarkets.
