Dwarf fruit trees (forum)

Hi,
I am enquiring about fruit trees and potentially dwarf varieties. We have recently done some retaining wall work in our back yard and are looking at what to put in a 1 metre high raised garden bed. The bed is triangular with 4.8 metres of colourbond fencing on the north and west aspect of the bed, and stone brick work on the south eastern aspect. The bed gets full sun until late afternoon. Neither my husband or I are keen avid gardeners, so we need plants that are hardy and require little maintenance, however we have 2 small children that we want to teach where food comes from, so that's why we thought fruit trees may be the way to go. What can you suggest?
Thanks
Rhonda

I am quite inexperienced but i would say maybe a few variation of dwarf orange trees? From what I have read they require little pruning, just water regularly, and would be a fun fruit for kids.
