Dwarf granny smith (forum)

I recently bought a dwarf granny smith tree from Plantnet and it is growing nicely. My worry is I have been told that I need another apple tree for pollination to get fruit. Is it so? I have emailed Plantnet twice but they don't seem to want to answer. Maybe someone here can help as I don't really have the room for another tree, hence the dwarf variety.

Apples do not self pollinate and so yes you will need a second tree that partners your granny smith. Websites that talk about apples should be able to easily help you select a cross pollinater.
If you are limited for space a few options are:
1. select another dwarf variety and have them close by.
2. plant two apples in the same hole. (you might need to trim down 1 side on each so that they can fit close. Trunks close together)
3. wait till your granny smith gets a little bigger and optain a cutting from someone to provide your cross pollinater on the same tree.
You didnt mention your location but im sure on a forum like this there would be someone to be able to provide you with a cutting.

Granny Smith: Ever popular, rich green skinned apple. Vigorous. Matures early April. Pollinates with Golden Delicious, Jonathan , Lady Williams and Pinkabelle.
(from the dawsons website)
My suggestion would be to get a pinkabelle. They are compact and grow in an upward collumn. Very easy to keep in a tight space.

Another option- buy a book on fruit tree cultivation (for the same price as a new tree) and graft another variety of apple onto your existing one (using the info in the book.
Otherwise- buy a Pinkabelle- they're a nice apple (pink lady fruit on a dwarf tree)

I'd love to buy a dwarf Granny Smith but cant find where to buy one. I already have a Pinkabelle and would love to plant them in the same hole. Would that work ?
