From ground to pot? (forum)

Diana Wilson starts with ...
My dwarf mulberry has been in the ground for 2 months and is already 2 mtrs high and laiden with lovely delicious fruit, as it's October. I'm having to move from NSW to VIC. Question can I successfully dig it up and pot it for transfer? And will it grow in a colder climate even though it gets hot there in summer/ spring months? Please help.

Shouldn't be a problem, water night before and pot up in the morning. Get as much of the roots out as possible.Give it a dose of seasol during transport and when finally planting out.

Why not just buy a new plant of the same type when you settle in your new home rather than trying to uproot an established plant and risk killing it?

Or take a cutting. Mulberries grow easily from cutting.

Thank you didn't realise they grow easily from cuttings. If I leave the plant here it will be killed btw.

That's a pity (it's going to be killed). Is it a grafted plant Diana? Check the base of the plant and see if there is an obvious graft. It may be a cutting grafted onto dwarf rootstock. If you take a cutting from that it will grow to the height of the original, not the dwarf rootstock. If that is the case then just buy another of the same type! They grow so fast and cost so little.
