Charles cant spell says... How big is it and how old. You can get a $50 net and cover the hole tree and solve all the fly problems. Possoms might still get them. I dont think its about cutting something out and replacing it, its about trialing and asking around for ways to manage the 'pests". If you plant something else with the mindset that protection etc is to hard, something else will crop up that will be a problem with your new tree. I recommend keeping your trees small planting lots and protecting them. Rather than looking for fruit that things dont eat, after all fruit is there to attract animals/insects to spread the plants seeds. | About the Author Charlesstillcantspell1 Perth Innaloo 13th November 2010 4:11pm #UserID: 2742 Posts: 411 View All Charlesstillcantspell1's Edible Fruit Trees |

Mark says... We've had our first good crop of low chill stonefruit thanks to netting. We netted all around the tree right up to the trunk. Just folded the net over and used pegs to join at the seams. The netting was light enough to just drap over the tree without damaging it. Basically we left no way for the fruitfly to get in. Keeping each tree small and managable is the key I think. We were in a similar situation last year and I'm glad we persevered, even a small young trees seem to be able to get a bumper crop. Good luck! | About the Author 15th November 2010 8:38am #UserID: 0 Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees |
