Guava Flowers but no Fruit

    5 responses

I have a Guava tree (Psidium one, not Feijoa) and it flowers profusely but does not fruit. It has grown about 1.5 metres in the last year and is very healthy, but does not bear fruit. Do the Psidium guavas need to cross-pollinate? Thanks for your help!

It is a cherry guava. It gets as much water as my citrus, does it need more than that? If we do not get any rain, I would probably give it a deep water every two weeks.

I would think so. I have two hedges of 7 plants each, one is the yellow variety and the other the red. My red ones are currently in various stages of flower and some are forming fruit at a faster rate than others. My plants are still quite young and vary in height between only one foot and two feet. They get watered three times a week off the retic in Summer. In Winter, I turn the retic off. I suspect yours may need more water. I hope that helps :-) Good luck!

Thanks for that - defo my problem then. I have just bought the tree watering guards that should arrive shortly that hold 20 litres of water - will put one around the guava so it has a constant water supply. Thanks again!

I had a red strawberry guava that was in fruit when I bought it more than 10 years ago, then stopped fruiting for the next few years in a pot and the following5 or 6 years in the ground and last year finally decided to fruit - heavily!. It seems they're a bit temperamental - or just slow to mature.
