How to germinate Pandanus tectorius from seed?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any advice on how to germinate Pandanus tectorius from seed? I tried last year but all my seeds failed. I think they dried out because they were in direct sun and I didn't keep them moist.

I live on the Sunshine Coast.

I just picked up about 50 seeds which had dropped and I'm going to try a few methods to figure out which one will work best but I'd like some feedback/thoughts if possible.

Method 1:
1. Cut off all fleshy fruit from the keys to avoid any kind of rot
2. Soak in warm water for 4-5 days (changing water daily)
3. Sow keys into shallow sand and keep moist

Method 2:
1. Cut off all fleshy fruit from the keys to avoid any kind of rot
2. Soak in warm water for 4-5 days (changing water daily)
3. Wrap seeds in paper towels and then into ziplock bags and place in morning sun.

I'll probably try various variations of the methods above without soaking, without cutting off fleshy fruit and variations of soils.

Any tips? I've attached some photos...

I don't know specifically what is best for this plant, but generally seeds should be kept moist and kept cool in the shade. In your method 2 I would not place the bags in the sun.
