Japanese Persimmon Tree fruit loss

    2 responses

Jo starts with ...
I have a 4-year old Japanese Persimmon tree. When the young persimmons grow to one to two inches in diameter, they fall off the tree. I find about 15 to 20 fruit on the ground daily. Anything I can do to stop this fruit loss?
Last year the tree only produced about 8 mature fruit.

There are only two reasons I can think of.
A stressed tree, or lack of pollination.
Persimmons are complicated sexually and some varieties do require pollination. You haven't mentioned the variety you have, maybe the tag has been lost?
Assuming you are looking after the tree well, and you are really keen for it to fruit, then another tree might help. Dai-Dai maru is known to be self-fertile and a good pollinator, and is earlier fruiting than some of the later varieties which do better with pollination such as Suruga and some strains of Fuyu.
