Eric starts with ... I have a Persian Lime tree that is about 4 feet tall planted in a pot. It is watered 2-3 times a week, the leaves are a beautiful dark green and of course if you break one in half you can smell the lime a mile away. The soil is acidic. My question is this: The white blooms w/the limes in them fall off the tree as soon as they sprout. I dont know what im doing wrong and am open to any suggestions, Thanks | About the Author Eric Mississippi 21st September 2007 9:27am #UserID: 324 Posts: 1 View All Eric's Edible Fruit Trees |
EatAust says... I'm not familiar with Persian limes but I had a similar problem with my tahitian lime. The answer was to water it a LOT more than it was getting; I discovered this after it rained for a week (!! - this was a few years ago in Sydney) and the lime suddenly started holding on to its fruit. The lime was in a pot; what I started doing was soaking it in so much water that the pot overflowed for about 2 minutes. It worked. It seems a terrible waste of water, however ... the compromise seems to be a solid dump of water about twice a week - a huge amount in one small time. Citrus seem to prefer that to small amounts over a larger time - well, in my experience. Others' may vary ... | About the Author EatAust 3rd October 2007 11:09am #UserID: 330 Posts: 9 View All EatAust's Edible Fruit Trees |
