Mango pruning

    3 responses

My mango tree has been in the ground for about 4/5 yrs and is pretty much only ONE trunk, (very little in the way of branches). It has now reached over 3 mts in height and I have had only two mangoes (beautiful flavour) from it EVER! WHEN should I prune, how much should I take of it? I am in SE Qld. I would like to have it ideally under 2.5mts... and producing some fruit would be nice!

Not a great time to prune..... You should prune straight after fruit have been removed..... If you do it now you might not get any growth until spring & probably no fruit.....

Thank you Mike. Guess I'll have to wait until next Christmas then. Any advice on feeding & maybe encouraging some fruit?
